About

Hi! Welcome to Luiza’s Kitchen. My grandmother Lucy is the inspiration behind this blog, and all the recipes you find. I wanted to create a space that would allow my grandmother’s recipes to be timeless, a space that makes everyone feel like they are in Luiza’s Kitchen.

My grandmother is the definition of “salt of the earth”. She was born and raised in Russia with seven siblings during the Soviet-era. Food was scarce, and with so many mouths to feed my grandmother had to get creative. When Lucy is in the kitchen, you better believe no food goes to waste. She prides herself in being able to use one piece of meat for three or four different dishes, and keeping the budget tight is crucial as well.

As far as I can remember my grandmother has always been an amazing cook. However, she will tell you herself that at a younger year she could barely boil an egg. Her cooking skills improved when she married my grandfather at eighteen years old. Then with time, practice, and many burn scars she perfected each recipe.

My grandmother is an inspiration to me. She is the reason that I continue to push myself as a home cook. I will also admit that it took me until twenty four years old to learn how to properly boil an egg. But we all start somewhere. And now at thirty two, with a husband and baby boy, I am putting to practice the skills that my grandmother has taught me. I hope one day to pass these on to my children, or to at least to inspire other home cooks.
